Story
Tanghulu is a Chinese delicacy of hawthorn berries coated in a crisp shell of caramelized sugar, traditionally enjoyed during festive occasions. Perfumer Marine Ipert first tasted it in Shanghai on New Year's Eve — the sugar cracking between her teeth, the tart fruit underneath, fireworks still hanging smoky in the cold air. A small pleasure, noticed in passing, that stayed with her long after the night ended.
The full story of each scent lives inside its box. Here, only a glimpse.
“Shanghai on New Year’s Eve — streets glowing with red lanterns, alive with music and firecrackers, a tide of voices rising into the cold night air. The air was rich with the festive aroma as she took a curious bite. The sugar shell cracked, releasing a taste at once celebratory and new, yet strangely familiar — like coming home to a place you didn’t know you had missed.”
